Between 1948 and 1952

Between 1948 and 1952 brought the first generation of the F-series trucks that carried the designations of the F-1 through the F-8. These vehicles were rated by their weight as cab-over-engine, conventional trucks, school buses, and of course the pickup truck. During this time all of the vehicles had been equipped with manual transmissions. These trucks also featured a foot-plunger windshield washer as well as driver and passenger-side windshield wipers. Back then this was very high-tech and an incredible accomplishment for the Ford brand.

Between 1953 and 1956

During this time Ford had completely redesigned the F-Series. These vehicles had received updated chassis, roomier interiors and exteriors, new engines, and options such as a radio, dome light, and armrests. This series also went through an important name change. During this time the F-1 became the F-100 and the F-2 and F-3 merged together becoming the F-250. Also, the F-4 became known as the F-350. These name changes have remained the same even to this day. The flathead engine that was in the F-100 had been replaced in 1953. This was done by Ford's new 239 CID overhead valve Y-block V8. This new engine quickly received its nickname the "Power King."

Between 1967 and 1972

During this period the Ford brand's cab was 3" roomier than its competitors and this truck also came with an even heavier frame. Between these years there had been three available trim packages known as the Base, Custom Cab, and Ranger. The Ford brand also added some new safety features to the exterior. These included reflectors on the rear of the truck bed. During this period had been this truck first generation to offer factory-installed air conditioning versus dealer installation.

Between 1980 and 1986

this generation of Ford F-150s had received the first redesign since 1965. This truck featured improved aerodynamics, fuel economy, and both exterior and interior modifications. During the year 1983, diesel power had also been added to the F-Series. A new high-output version of the 5.8L Windsor was introduced in 1984 as well as the first year of electronic fuel injection for the 5.0L V8 in 1983.
