An internal combustion engine pushes out the maximum amount of horsepower at the RPM it peaks at, usually somewhere between 7,000 and 8,000 RPM, depending on the vehicle. An ICE has somewhat of a flat torque curve that provides decent power until you get to higher speeds. At which point, the torque tapers off because of a reduction in intake oxygen density. Conversely, an EV has its maximum torque available immediately, no matter how fast you're going or the gear the transmission is in. Where an ICE needs time to allow the air/fuel mixture to burn and expand inside the cylinders, an EV only needs time for the electrons to flow. This gives you all of your EVs available power the second you press the accelerator.
