2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R Revealed

To compete with other off-road beasts, Ford knew they had to do something big. That's why they put a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine underneath the hood of the all-new Raptor R. This supercharged engine delivers a heart-pounding 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. The Raptor R's engine is the most powerful engine in Ford Performance's arsenal, which was previously only seen under the hood of the Mustang Shelby GT500. For the Raptor R, Ford Performance optimized it for better off-road performance by recalibrating the supercharger and installing a new pulley. These alterations increased the engine's torque delivery in the low and mid-range RPMs. 

For more than a decade, Ford Performance has improved the Raptor through torture testing and immaculate engineering. Beginning within the 10-speed automatic transmission of the Raptor R, engineers recalibrated it to better handle all the power that the supercharged V8 can throw at it. The front axle of the truck is new, with a more robust construction to better manage the powertrain's additional torque. With the Raptor R, drivers get even more control over the truck's additional power, with a unique dual exhaust system and true pass-through muffler with an active valve system. The truck comes with Normal, Sport, Quiet, and Baja drive modes that can be adjusted with the MyMode feature. This allows drivers to customize a variety of settings, including suspension modes, steering, drive, and others. One mode can be saved to be easily accessed at the press of the "R" button on the steering wheel. The Raptor R also stands out from the regular Raptor with advanced suspension optimized for phenomenal stability while tackling brutal off-road terrains. The advanced FOX Live Valve shock absorbers are tuned to balance both roll control and ride quality on and off-road. The shocks electronically controlled dampers use suspension height sensors to keep tabs on terrain conditions hundreds of times per second and adjust the suspension accordingly. Additionally, the shocks provide wheel travel of 13 inches in the front and 14.1 inches in the rear, making it easier than ever to traverse rocks and sand.

The Raptor R is built upon the design of the third-generation Raptor while taking the design up a notch with unique styling that paints a picture of its supercharged capabilities. The hood's power dome sits nearly an inch taller than the one on the base Raptor, assisting in the extraction of warm air from underneath. The menacing looks of the Raptor R are emboldened by the iconic 'FORD' grille and black bumpers, and fender flares. The Raptor R can be identified by the Code Orange 'R' badges found on the grille, power dome, and tailgate. Inside, the aggressive tone carries into the black interior with standard Recaro seats. The seats combine black leather accented by Alcantara suede that is ingeniously placed to grab when the terrain gets tough. Genuine carbon fiber can be found on the upper parts of the instrument panel, media bin door, and door panels. The center console features a 12-inch touchscreen with SYNC 4 technology.
